Trained Makers
Trained Makers
Trained Makers tools are advanced tools available by appointment to users 16+. The Trained Makers Tools are, the laser cutter, embroidery machine, and serger with your own thread.
Trained Maker machine appointments open two weeks in advance. Training occurs during your first appointment. The length of the appointment is 2 hours, please plan accordingly. The Shrewsbury Public Library does not provide supplies for your project, you must bring your own. If you are making an appointment for the Embroidery Machine, you may pay for embroidery thread and tear-away stabilizer at the library. To use Trained Makers tools, users must have a valid CW MARS library card, agree to a training during their first appointment, agree to the Makerspace Policy, and sign the Waiver, Release of Claims, and Hold Harmless Agreement.
Trained Maker appointments can be made using our booking form.
The SPL Learning Lab Makerspace provides access to tools and machines. Users must bring their own materials and supplies. There are some special materials and supplies considerations for Trained Makers Machines.
Laser Cutter Materials: Users must provide a datasheet or purchase receipt for any materials used in the Laser Cutter. The SPL Learning Lab Makerspace laser cutter is currently only usable with approved ply-wood, acrylic, and cardstock. For best results, bring your file for cutting as an .svg file on a thumb drive. You must connect to the laser cutter with the Makerspace computer. For material questions email makerspace staff at splmaking@cwmars.org.
Embroidery Machine: The SPL provides a limited range of embroidery thread colors. Machine Embroidery requires stabilizer and users must provide their own stabilizer. The embroidery machine can read .pes files. Please bring your file on a thumbdrive. For material questions email makerspace staff at splmaking@cwmars.org.
Serger: During All Makers times, users may use the serger with grey thread. Makerspace users may be trained during Trained Maker appointments and use the Serger with their own thread.
