Children's FAQ

Two years old.

Children through grade four must be continually attended to and supervised by a parent or parent's representative while visiting the library. Children in grades five, six, seven and eight may be alone in the library for up to two hours. On half days and Fridays, children in grades five and six may not be left unattended at the library and must have a responsible person in the building with them. 
A parent's representative is another adult or teenage (15 years or older) who has been designated by a parent or guardian to insure that their child is safe and acting in accordance with library rules. Children under 15 years old cannot act as a parent's representative.
Children through grade four who are attending library programs must have a responsible person remain in the library building throughout the entire program.
The library's Child Safety Policy states grade level and not age in order to keep peers together.

Children should always be attended by a parent or parent's representative (someone 15 years or older) while in the Children's Room or Courtyard. The Children's Room and Courtyard is intended to be enjoyed by children and their families.
Children in grades four or below who are attending library programs must have a responsible person remain in the library building throughout the entire program.
Unattended teens should enjoy the Teen Room and Community Commons areas.

The Children’s Room is regularly evaluating the need for volunteers. If you are interested, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Cailey Hauver, at splvolunteers@cwmars.org.

As of right now, outside groups are not allowed to book the children’s program room. For information about spaces that can be booked by outside groups, please visit our Group Meeting and Study Rooms page.

The courtyard is only meant to be enjoyed by children and their families.

All posting must be approved by the Head of the Children’s Department, Head of Circulation, or the Library Director. Only content provided by non-profit organizations can be posted on the board.

Another person may use your library card account if they present your library card when checking out items. We cannot look up a person's account if they are not present.

Food is not permitted in the Children’s Room and in other carpeted areas of the library. Food can be eaten in the courtyard or on the main level in the Community Commons (the tiled area with the tall tables near the Meeting Rooms).
